When you look out the window from work all week and see nice days to go fishing, but on your day off it seems to blow a gale, really what can you do. I personaly just go fishing. It was just a few days before the ITFFA Leinster Interprovincial qualifier. I had spent five out of the last six weeks as you know on Lough Lene and found fish in most areas, but today was going to be different.
There was a big wave so we decided to see if we could find fish in the normal areas that had not been fished of late. I quick drift through Fagans Bay verified the fish were still on Buzzers and away we went up the lake.
John Maguire was my partner for the day, its nice to do a few practice sessions with someone whois fishing the competition aswell..
The wind was blowing hard so i set up the bung, this is a legal indicator tied on a hook, that we fish like a float . I tie this one on a dropper 4 ft from my fly line and 2 more droppers three foot apart. I put a size 10, a size 12 and a size 10 buzzer on the cast, a size 12 on the middle dropper
The areas i fish are well known, but people tend to go look for fish in the last stocked area. To be honest there can be a lot of fish in these areas but they probably have been well fished and spooky. The areas that have been stocked a month ago, or even two months ago are well worth investigating, although there are less fish they are less spooky and easier caught.
Today was all about finding fish, getting a couple , doing a drift again getting one or two more then leaving them alone for competition day.
Throughout the day we probably did 4 drifts that we didnt meet fish. But as it was windy it could of been due to several things, no buzzers hatching or presentation of the flies or that there were no fish there . Either way when we met areas with buzzer and fish well it was mayhem in the boat, Double kook ups in the boat in a big wave isnt fun. But at least we had areas to fish for sunday we knew held fish.
At the end of the day we had done our job abd on the way in we said we would get just one more for the camera.
Sunday is D day, after that if i qualify or not i will go through out tactics and flies as promised..
Till then tight lines
